About Our Fire Department

History

The Cooksville Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1967, with the support of the community, especially the late Voyt Rudisill and his family. The department started with a 1941 Ford American LaFrance Pumper. This truck was retired in the 1980’s and is presently on display in the Catawba County Firefighter’s Museum. Cooksville Fire Department currently operates with a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, a Captain, Lieutenants, Secretary, Treasurer, Traffic Safety Officer, Engineer, and Firefighter/’EMTs. After a continuing effort to improve water supplies throughout the community, members of the department and the community now have a water line and numerous hydrants at their disposal, greatly improving the capabilities of the suppression forces of the department. After years of hard work, Cooksville Fire Department was able to achieve an ISO rating of 5, thus lowering the fire insurance rates for homes and businesses in our service district.
